I transferred over to ODAX from Clamagore in 1958. I was an SO2. We went on one of the great cruises of my 12 years in the Navy. We hit Gibralter, Pireaus Greece, Naples, transited the Suez and stopped in Aden for some serious liberty. When some of the crew tried to smuggle booze aboard it was thrown overboard and with the sharks circling no one tried to save it. We ended up in Karachi which was under martial law and I had Shore patrol just about every night. One of the guys took over a bus on one night when I stayed aboard and crashed it. We spent half the night with the Corpsman sewing people up on the mess hall table. On the way back home I turned 21 as we went back through the Suez canal. I also found out I had made 1st class. Lt. Plato was the best XO I ever served under Of the four Submarines I qualified and served on I had the best time aaboard the ODAX .

My grandfather "William H. Adams" (W.H. or "Bill") served on the ODAX from 1948-1952. His rank was "GMC". If anybody remembers him or has a crew list, please let me know. I am in the process of researching his Naval career (1938-1960). Thank You for all of your help in advance!
