Rex W. Chenoweth
Departed on Eternal Patrol Aug. 14, 2010.
Rex W. Chenoweth, 85, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, in Herrick Medical Center under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born Dec. 8, 1924, in Green Oak Township, Mich., the son of Elmer and Mary Margaret (James) Chenoweth. He was married to Janet Gouin on Feb. 26, 1949, and she survives. A US Navy veteran of WWII, he served aboard the submarine USS Odax (SS-484) as a Motor Machinist Mate 3rd Class. Rex was a construction electrician for 37 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic in Tecumseh. Rex was a member of Local I.B.E.W #252, and a Charter Member of United States Submarine Veterans of WWII, where he held state and national offices. He enjoyed building things and repairing things in need of repair. In addition to his wife, Janet, Rex is survived by three sons, Alan (Lynette) Chenoweth of Plymouth, Mich., Brian (Charlotte) Chenoweth of Tipton, and Ted (Elizabeth) Chenoweth of Huntsville, Ala.; one daughter, Suzanne Chenoweth of Tipton; two brothers, John Chenoweth of Howell, Mich. and Robert (Jackie) Chenoweth of Brighton, Mich.; one sister, Thelma Cook of Highland, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Dale E. Hartsell

after a short bout with cancer at Hope Hospice, Health Park. Born in Early, Iowa, the son of Charles and Lois Hartsell, Dale enlisted in the Navy upon graduation from Odebolt High. He served in the submarine corps. Following his discharge he graduated from the University of Iowa and joined Spiegel, Inc. rising to Vice President in charge of all east coast mail order stores. After that, he joined Moulton, Stevens and Nelan as a manufacturer's representative for sporting goods, until he retired to Fort Myers in 1985, where he remained an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Dale is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Bleasdell Hartsell, with whom he raised three sons: Steve (Mary Ann), Brian (Patti) and Terry, with grandchildren: Nathan (Jessica), Gabriel, Abbie and Kelsey. He is also survived by his sister, Velma Zehner. He was an active member of Cypress Lake Methodist Church and Whiskey Creek Country Club. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Cypress Lake Methodist Church on Monday, September 13, at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow in the Memorial Garden at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hope Hospice, Health Park. He will be missed by all who knew him. |
